outdoor family photography

Outdoor family photography isn’t quite as appealing in Kalamazoo since the snowstorms have started, but I couldn’t let the year close without showcasing some of the wonderful outside sessions we’ve had this year. (And it’s about time I started sharing again!) Zoe’s family wanted to have her first birthday pictures taken outdoors, so we met at the Asylum Nature Preserve on a very warm evening. The light was beautiful and the wildflowers were in bloom, so the setting was perfect. Zoe is adorable with a capital ‘A’…she had the cutest expressions! My favorites from the session were the ones with her parents, and this first one with her mama is one of my all time favorites:

even though I loved the colors in the field, I knew I wanted the next one of Zoe to be black and white- her expression here is just prefect for it-

when they were shopping for clothes for their session, Zoe happened to spot the leopard print hat. She loved it, and it made her smile every time she saw it (the trick was getting it out of her sight, so that she didn’t sport animal print head wear in every picture). I have to say, it suits her very well!

The beauty of doing outdoor family photography is that it can seem just like taking a walk and playing a bit outside together. We spent time exploring the flowers, playing ‘flying baby’, blowing bubbles and riding in the wagon.

Thanks for choosing me for your outdoor family photography session, V. family- it was so much fun spending an evening with you!
