Maternity photo session details
Maternity photo sessions are a time to celebrate your pregnancy and to
capture all the anticipation of this amazing time!
Here are the details of how a pregnancy session works:
Where maternity sessions take place
Your session can be one of two types. For a studio look to your pictures, your session will take place in your home. I bring simple backdrops and lights and everything else we’ll need to turn your living room into a mini-studio. If you prefer outdoor scenery, we can meet outdoors in a scenic area. These can be done year-round, using spots like a park or garden in the spring and summer, beaches in summer, fields in fall and even out in the snow in the winter. Look over the pictures on the website and see if you prefer indoor or outdoor photos, posed or more interactive with others. If you see pictures similar to your vision in the gallery or the blog, we can create that type of a session for you- I take pride in tailoring each photo session to your taste, so it feels unique to you.
The best time to schedule a maternity session
A great time for a session is when you are 30-34 weeks, when you’re nicely rounded but still moving around fairly easily. I do recommend scheduling in advance, as I do a limited number per month
What to wear for your pictures
Always a top question, but I’m here to help! I have a blog post here with guidelines on choosing from your own closet, and a Pinterest board here with visuals to show you examples. Also, I have a beautiful collection of gowns designed just for maternity photography, and you are more than welcome to use a few for your session. They come in a variety of sizes and are very stretchy, so will fit most women while pregnant. Most of the dresses you see on the website or my facebook page are from my closet. They’re sure to add a special touch to your pictures.
What happens during a session
Maternity photo sessions typically take 60-90 minutes. We do either several locations within walking distance of each other or several different backdrops indoors. If you’d like to change outfits during the session, there’s usually time for 3 ‘looks’. The focus of the session is you, but your partner and children are welcome to be part of it, too.
How to book your session
Take a look around at the maternity gallery, make sure you love my style, and decide if you’d like an indoor or outdoor session. Then contact me to talk over your ideas for your session and find a date. I’ll send a questionnaire so you can record your pose and color preferences and pay your deposit. That’s it! And you will have fun- the most common comment I hear after pregnancy sessions (even from partners!) is, “that was really fun!”. In years to come, you’ll love being able to look back at this time, and your child will love it, too.
