Maternity pictures have skyrocketed in popularity ever since Demi Moore’s pregnancy pictures on the cover of Vanity Fair. I can hardly believe it, but that’s been 20 years ago already! It’s not surprising, though. Maternity pictures are a celebration of this stage of life- a stage that can seem very long by this time in pregnancy, but one that seems pretty short when you’re looking back. It’s sometimes hard to feel beautiful in your changed body, instead of just big, but these sessions do remind women of how beautiful they are. By far the most common comment I get after a session is ‘Wow- that was fun!’. And almost always the next comment is some variation of ‘It made me feel so pretty’. I think the experience of being a model is part of it, along with putting yourself first- especially if you have other kids already and you’re used to focusing on them. It’s also a chance to capture all the anticipation you’re feeling now, and to feel proud of yourself for the important work you’re doing. And if you have a session at home, you don’t even need to leave the house to do it!
C. is such a gorgeous mom-to-be. She’s expecting her first in about two months, a boy.
we usually use a variety of clothing in the maternity pictures, from a client’s own wardrobe to fabric wraps that we ‘create’ dresses out of. Dressing up is part of the fun! I think C. looks stunning in this orange color.
And the best part is that I’ll get to work with her again for her baby’s newborn session. It’s always a pleasure to come back to familiar faces. Thank you for the opportunity to capture your pregnancy, C. I can’t wait to meet your little man soon!
