Photographing a newborn outdoors can be tricky in west Michigan, given our unpredictable and often newborn-unfriendly weather. Luckily, Jacob is a summer baby and the weather cooperated. Even more luckily, his family owns a gorgeous property in Marshall and his mom is a talented photographer who knows all the good spots there. We did part of his session indoors, and then headed out on a balmy summer evening to do more pictures outside. I couldn’t pass up the chance to use the vintage buggy, and it fit Jacob perfectly. I have to say, it felt a bit strange to be carrying a newborn outdoors- I guess I’m not used to the feeling after all the babies I handle inside!
I adore this whole family- after doing maternity and newborn sessions for all three kids (here’s the family’s maternity session we did a few months ago), I feel right at home with them. I loved watching them welcome Jacob to their family- he’s one lucky guy!
Here’s just a sampling of images from both the indoor and outdoor newborn sessions. Love the knit teddy and ‘teddy hat’ his mom had for him- they were supposed to be a gift for another baby, and that baby happened to be 10 lbs at birth and didn’t fit into it. Jacob was almost half that size, so it worked : )
I love how Alli’s looking at him in these- she’s a great big sister!
If you’d like pictures of your newborn outdoors (or indoors if the weather isn’t at a good point for that!), contact me for more information or to reserve your spot on the schedule. Newborn sessions can be booked in advance; I have a flexible schedule and can easily rearrange if your baby is early or late.
