maternity session in the snow | winter maternity photography

A maternity session in the snow- that’s what Cassandra really wanted when she first talked to me about pregnancy pictures. For a while, we thought Michigan weather wasn’t going to cooperate. There was almost no snow in December- in fact, it was rainy around the holidays. As it turned out, though, the date we had picked out was perfect. We had a big snowstorm for two days beforehand, and everything was covered with lots of fluffy white snow. Even the trees had a generous coating- it was simply stunning out. The downside was that is was COLD, and the wind kicked up a bit during the session, making it feel even chillier. Cassandra was a trooper, though, and we moved fast and took warming breaks while traveling in the car from spot to spot.

Her baby shower was held at the Henderson Castle, a gorgeous old stone mansion on a hilltop, surrounded by a deep porch and large old pine trees. Since it was a special spot for her, we started there and used the gazebo and porch as well as the grounds. Cassandra chose the perfect wardrobe for a maternity session in the snow- her long deep red dress was perfect against both the snow and the trees.

We moved on to Milham Park (which we had to ourselves, for once!), and the stone bridges, little river and pine trees were another perfect backdrop. Here’s just a sampling of her snowy maternity pictures- thanks for braving the snow and cold and for being the perfect model, Cassandra! I can’t wait to meet your daughter in a few weeks!
