Information that’s helpful in planning for a newborn photo session
Photos of your newborn will be precious memories for years to come, so I make sure to set aside 2-3 hours to work with each client. You won’t feel rushed, and neither will your precious newborn. Working around feeding, changing, soothing and cuddling is all a part of my job as your photographer. You can take the time to sit back, relax, and savor all the cuteness of your new baby. Planning ahead will help to take some of the pressure off, too- here’s some information to help you do that.
Your newborn session will take place right in the comfort of your home. I’ll supply all the necessary lighting and backgrounds and take care of set-up and removal. In addition, I have a great selection of newborn hats, wraps, blankets and baskets that clients are welcome to use during the shoot. If you have a special request for an item, just let me know and I’ll do my best to provide it.
The best time to get photos of your newborn is between one and two weeks of age. Ideally, one week is better since newborns are very sleepy and flexible at this age, making it easier to get the “curled up” newborn poses. Safety is my priority, so I never force any pose that the baby or parent is uncomfortable with. Parents and siblings are welcome to be included in the session as well.
If possible, schedule your newborn session 3-4 months in advance to secure your spot. I realize that not every baby cooperates with their due date, so I do try to leave room in the schedule for very early or late babies. You can also contact me if you’re closer to your due date or if your newborn has just arrived to see if there are any last-minute openings.
