We did her mom’s maternity session outside, so it was only fitting that we take ‘Sprout’, as she’s affectionately known, outside for part of her newborn session-

Doesn’t she have great hair and cheeks?!

I’ve been looking forward to meeting him since he ‘debuted’ in this maternity session. His parents are so smitten with him- A. kept exclaiming over how cute he is- love that!
I’m sending a son off to college in Ann Arbor in the fall, so had to include the U of M hat that his grandma made him!
Thank goodness for this little guy’s aunt! She had the magic touch with him- when all else failed, she was able to get him to relax-

Big brother needed a few of his own, too. Wait until you see his eyelashes!

Happy Father’s Day to all you amazing dads out there- especially those of you celebrating your very first Father’s Day!

I’ve got some catching up to do! These are no longer sneak peeks, because I’ve been a blog slacker. In the past nine days, though, I’ve been to Massachusetts and back (by car) and photographed a wedding, a birth, and three newborns- so I’ve got pictures to share for some time to come. This sweet little girl is the new daughter of the owner of the wonderful Curves Kalamazoo- if you’re looking for a place full of friendly people to exercise with, this is it! Meet Miss T. and her proud big brother-
I can only imagine their bond when they’re older- I loved watching H. with her new sister. And it was so sweet to see baby A. calm right down when her sister held her. Add her other sister- two, busy, sweet and imaginative- into the mix to play with, and she’s one lucky girl!

Delicate and girly- such a beautiful little baby-

when you’re breech, you can still do this after two weeks- look where she’s still comfortable having those toes:

I think newborns are perfectly gorgeous naked, so I’ve never even thought about doing a ‘what to wear’ post for them. For variety, though, the right little hat or headband can be so much fun. I’m about to enable shoppers, so stop reading right here if you don’t want to spend money! I hear there are people who have never heard of Etsy, the online site for buying and selling handmade items (www.etsy.com). Since I have a mild major addiction to it, I just can’t believe there is anyone who is in the dark about this wonderful resource. They have clothing, jewelry, artwork- anything you can imagine. Every vendor has their own little ’store’ within Etsy, and it can be a bit overwhelming, so I thought I’d list just a few of my favorites in case your baby needs a little something fun to wear at a session. If you have favorites you’d like to share, let me know!

There are so many things I love about newborns, and so many facets of their new little lives to capture. Miss V. gave us the whole gamut.
First, the sense of mystery. She’s only been part of the world for a week, and has definite likes and dislikes, character traits and personality- she’s unique and you can’t imagine life without her any more. This kind of image captures for me the beauty and uniqueness of a newborn-

the freshness and innocence of babies-

the way they can totally win their daddy’s heart in no time-

the love and devotion they inspire in their moms-

and their incredible cuteness
and the curve balls they add to the process. This one makes me smile every time I see it- it needs a caption!
And the opportunity to document all these things about beautiful new lives is why I think I have the best job in the world. Thank you to all my clients for trusting me with your precious new babies!
I just love all these sweet new babies I’m seeing lately. The nurses on the Labor and Delivery floor say that they’re in the middle of a mini baby boom in Kalamazoo, so it’s not just my imagination! It’s made me a little slow in blog posting, but I had to show a few of darling Mr. C.-
