a toddler and his baby | delton newborn photographer

2014-04-16_0002There’s nothing like toddler drama, is there?! And few things seem to bring it on more than a new baby and the accompanying changes in schedule and ‘(less)available mama time’. That’s where Xander was when we did his baby sister’s newborn photo session. I remember his first photo session being leisurely, quiet, and low key. Not this one! He was not a fan of the new baby, and it took some coaxing to even get him near her. I loved how patient his parents were with him- they helped him cope, took breaks and didn’t push too hard. They live on a lake, so we spent some time outside during a feeding break. He was able to ride his bike and ‘drive’ his beloved toy, aka the family boat. That really turned his mood around- there’s nothing like fresh air and exercise to cheer up a toddler!

back inside to try again, and this time he was ready to at least be near her, although actually touching her seemed to be a bit much to ask. I’m sure this is a very brief stage, and one that will be fun to remember in the rough and tumble of sibling play that’s sure to come!

we moved on to photograph her parents with her..

and then some of her on her own. Either all the hard work with her brother wore her out or she was just ready for a nap- she was a perfect model for the rest of the session. Love her in all the soft, girly colors, and it was fun to have all her beautiful dark hair to put headbands in!
