outdoor maternity | fall maternity pictures

Outdoor maternity pictures might not sound like much fun now that the temperature is below zero in west Michigan, but it was bliss to be outdoors on this fall afternoon. It’s really the best time to be outdoors in Kalamazoo…we have so many colorful spots to choose from, and the variety of trees, wildflowers and grasses can’t be beat. I think September and October are perfect for outdoor maternity pictures, as long as the weather cooperates (never a given around here, but if you’re patient, you can usually find a time). The changing leaves were especially vibrant this fall, so we really wanted to take advantage of them. The weather had been rainy and cold, but it warmed up and dried out just in time. The late fall colors were so pretty. I love the fields at the Asylum Preserve in all seasons, but autumn is definitely the prettiest time of the year here. L.’s dress picked up the colors beautifully, and the leaves and grasses made a perfect backdrop for her.

They were up for a walk, so we took the path down to the lake to take advantage of the pretty scenery there, and I’m so glad we did. It’s a bit of a hike, but so worth it! Thanks for being troopers, you two : ). (On a clothing note- so smart to wear a dress with a jacket. Just take the jacket off, and you have a whole different look!)

Their little girl is due soon (so at least I have these blogged before any newborn pictures are taken!), and I know she’s going to be so loved. It was such fun to see how much they were anticipating her arrival, and hearing about the preparations- everything from these outdoor maternity pictures to painting the nursery in a soft violet.
